Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is a painful complication found within the ball and underside of the foot.  It is most commonly seen to cause tightness and pain when the bottom of the foot is stretched.  Pain is usually particularly present right after a person gets up from sleeping.  In fact, at times it can take several minutes of walking around in the morning for the plantar fascia to stretch enough so the pain can subside.

The cause of plantar fasciitis is the stretching of a a ligament on the bottom of the foot, the plantar fascia.  This stretching causes little tears to occur in the fascia close to the ball of the foot.  The micro-tears produce the painful symptoms so many people which plantar fasciitis are accustomed to.

Plantar fasciitis can lead to further foot problems including heel spur formation, hammer toes and bunions.  Although the approach in the past for treatment of plantar fasciitis has been to use cortisone injections and encouraging patients to wear a night splint on the foot, there are now more current treatment options that don't involve injections, or splints, yet proves to be very beneficial.  If you're interested in learning more about this conservative care and how Orlando's Foot, Knee & Hand Chiropractor may be able to help you, click the link below.
